18,039 words. Seven thousand away from my minimum goal, Twelve away from the prize.

14,382 is my current number, here on Thursday night. My advance hasn't gone nearly as well as I'd hoped so far, as I've only gotten a few hours to work on my writing since yesterday morning. So, just under 2,000 words in two days. That average will have me done with my first draft in about 125 days. Which is over four months, and unacceptable.

So, still with a goal of 30,000 by sunday night, I need to average 5,000 words a day this weekend. Press onward.

That type of an average will have me done in twenty five days. A much more acceptable prospect.

I'm back into my novel full tilt. I spent a good amount of time on it yesterday, and this morning, and I thought it would be nice to note my progress and goal.

As of now, I'm at 12,573 words. Not much further than I was when I left off several months ago, but I have reread it a couple times, done some editing, and gotten back to realizing the direction I'm going. And I rewrote a couple of scenes. My goal for this novel is somewhere between 120,000 and 150,000 words. So, I am a little less than a tenth there.

My goal for this weekend: be between 25,000 and 30,000 words.

Return of the Blogspot

I'm finally back. It's halfway through my summer break from school, and I realized that working all summer wasn't going to make me a whole lot less poor than I already am, so I have readjusted my priorities and returned to the world of writing. I called in to work at 7:15 and quit, and then spent the morning catching up on all the stories that I don't have out at a venue right now. I sent out five different stories and an essay. Over the next few days I will get back at my novel, and pick up on some of the short stories I never completed.

There are few updates to my writing career, as I've been all but useless for a good three months now. "Manor at Scharling Lew" was recieved well at the Catscratch Books Anthology--a Gothic-style short story collection--and has made it through the first cut. Knock on wood for it to stay on the list. Manor is, to date, the story of mine that has recieved the most positive responses. It was a semi-finalist in Writers of the Future, and made it through the first round of edits at Fantasy and Science Fiction. It's also the second story I ever completed.

Elsewise, I've been stagnant. That will change now. Because I abandoned my main source of income. I better be getting some writing done.
